Dear Donor Family,
I am writing because my family and I are so grateful for the donation of a liver from your loved one. I am so sorry for your loss. I want you to know that, even though it took me a while to write, I have been thinking of you and your loved one every day. I had some major complications from the transplant surgery, but the liver has been working great all along. Little by little, I am getting stronger and that is thanks to your loved one.
I needed a transplant because I had liver cancer. After the transplant, I was in the hospital for a long time. Now I am home and starting to do normal things again. Two days ago, I went to my first movie since the transplant. Before the transplant, I was wondering if I would live long enough to retire in a few years. I started working in construction in Pennsylvania when I was 14 and have been a licensed contractor in California for almost 30 years. Now I can plan on working part-time for a couple of years, then enjoying retirement with my wife.
Of course, I did not know your loved one, but thinking of him makes me cry. I will always remember the gift you and your loved one gave to me. Thank you.
Yours truly,
Your Recipient
