Dear family – It has been 20 years since I received a kidney from your loved one. It has taken me this long to write because I wasn’t sure if you would want to hear from me – but when I celebrated my 20th anniversary I went to the transplant clinic to share my thanks with them and saw an enormous banner that said that donors would love to hear from recipients. Dear Family,

We are sincerly sorry for your loss and respect your decision to become involved in donating organs. My husband J. had been sick for years and we never thought this would be an option with so many people sick and we are so grateful for this chance and will never forget the donor.

J. loves to fish, hunt, camp and we are very outdoor people. We will always keep the donor as part of adventures that they might have had.

Dear Donor Family,

It is now almost a year since I received the gift of a liver and kidney transplant from your family, and I am writing to thank you with all my heart. I can barely imagine how painful it must have been to have lost a young man from your family, so tragically.

For me, the last year has been filled with ups and downs, but in the last few months my health seems to have stabilized and I am feeling very well. Dear Donor Family,

I am writing for my father who have received an organ donation from your loved one. My father and I want to express our gratitude. He is slowly recovering but is grateful to have this opportunity to have this transplant.

I am about to graduate from a public university and I know my father and mother have been fighting to be able to see this day. I am very sorry for your loss, and I want you to know that your gift has given me another chance to live a normal life. I needed a transplant. I was on a machine for 10 hours every night. Since the transplant, I have been able to live a better life— I am able to be more time with my family. You and your loved one made it possible for me to experience another beginning in my life. My brother has waited 7 years for this healthy kidney. He is doing more than well. I asked him a day after his surgery about his urination status. He said, “beautiful, it is like apple juice”. He is extremely thankful and loves to express million thanks to his donor. My brother is a good man with a sincere heart. He and his wife are taking very good care of the healthy kidney. Dear Donor family,

I was blessed by your family member in September of 2015. I received a portion of his liver. Unfortunately, your tragic loss was a blessing to my life. Since the operation I have been able to return home to my 10 grandchildren. They are the reason for my fight for life.

I needed a liver as a result of Hep C damaging my organs. I was stuck by a needle while working many years ago. The surgeons had given me approximately 1 month to live. Your family member saved my life.

Since the transplant I have flourished in spreading God’s news. I tell my testimony, and I have began women’s bible discussion groups. Without the organ, this would not have been capable of happening. I thank you from the bottom of my heart. God bless your whole family.

To the family of my donor:

On December 30th of 2015, I received a kidney transplant due to the generosity of your loved one. First and foremost, I am very sorry for your loss. This is the most difficult aspect of the gift of a working kidney. My life is now vastly improved, but the reason for my good fortune is your sadness and I truly wish that wasn’t the case. Our family has suffered a death recently as well: my mother-in-law died from a stroke about a week after my transplant and even though she didn’t die prematurely (she was 91), we all feel her absence every day.
