“I’m an Army veteran and I’m a retired Corrections Officer, thirty one years of service when I retired”

Dear Donor Family,

I am writing to thank you for the organ donation from your loved one. I am very sorry for your loss, and I want you to know that your Gift has given me a chance to live a normal, productive life. I needed a transplant because I have Polycystic Kidney disease. It’s a hereditary disease in which cysts grow in and on the kidney eventually destroying its capability to clean toxins from my blood, causing renal failure. Prior to the transplant, I was on dialysis for eight years, MWF for four and a half hours.

The transplant is a miracle that I will always be grateful for, I thank the donor and his or her family every night. Words can’t really express the gratitude I have. I am lucky to be born and raised in Hawaii, I’m an Army veteran and I’m a retired Corrections Officer, thirty one years of service when I retired. I turned sixty, twenty eight days after the Transplant.

You and your loved one have made it possible for me to travel and experience different parts of our great country without having to scheduling dialysis sessions, and being exhausted most of the time. For this, I am very grateful to you and your loved one. My family and I will always remember your act of kindness and generosity. I will cherish my gift for the rest of my life.

Thank you, A Recipient.
