Thank you for saving my life. My family and I cannot thank you enough for this act of kindness from you and your loved one. My liver transplant was in February 2013. My illness was advanced and cancerous and very critical.

It has taken me this long to cope with survivor’s guilt and to write to thank you for my gift of life. The information we were given about the donation was very limited but I am sincerely grateful. I am doing very well, the doctors are pleased with my stage of recovery. So far, there is no trace of any cancer or body rejection.

Dear Donor Family,

I am writing to thank you from the bottom of my heart for this wonderful and amazing gift you have given me and my family—most importantly, my children who need their mother. You have given me another chance in life, something I did not think I was going to get before the day I got the call. It was a bittersweet moment for me. I knew someone had lost their life to give me life again, and for that I will forever be thankful.

Dear Family,

I am writing this letter because six years ago your family member gave me the opportunity to live again! And with each breath I’ve taken its been with the help of your lost one. I am truly sorry for your loss. And there is not a day that goes by in which I as well as my family do not pray to the Lord for him/her—as well as for you and your family!

I lost the function of my kidneys due to battling with diabetes for over 30 years. Once I had my kidney transplant, I was given another opportunity to live my life normally and to be thankful for the smallest things in this world, for which I am forever grateful.

The loss of a loved one is never easy to comprehend, particularity when that precious life is taken at a young age. However, know that your loved one provided continued life and a part of your loved one will forever live on.

Greetings. First, I’m very sorry for your loss, but your loved one’s organ donation saved my life. He is always in my prayers and in my heart; everyday I thank him for this.

I needed a transplant due to kidney failure. It was the 7th year of my dialysis. I was in pain, exhausted and almost giving up, when one early morning I was called for a match. Today, I feel so great as I go back to work as full time registered nurse. For this, I am very grateful to you and to his generosity in donating his organ. I needed a transplant because my kidneys failed and I found myself relying on dialysis. This was very hard on me.

I needed a transplant because I was shot 30 years ago and got Hepatitis C from the blood transfusions. The Hep C caused liver cancer and I had several procedures to get rid of the cancer but it could not clear the cancer from my liver. I have always had you on my mind and want to express how very, very grateful I was to be able to have someone like your loved one give so greatly of oneself. I am truly sorry for your loss and can only empathize with how awful and saddening that is, but please be aware that this incredible and unconditional gift provides me with the opportunity to live and begin a family with my wife.

Last year I was shocked to find by going into the hospital for severe back problems that it was not a hernia, but something called autoimmune hepatic cirrhosis. Until four years ago, I felt very blessed to enjoy good health. Hard work and golfing were two of my passions.
