Dear Donor Family,

I am writing to thank you for the organ donation from your loved one. I am very sorry for your loss, and I want you to know that your gift has given me a chance to live a normal, productive life. It has taken me six years to write you, but not because I wasn’t grateful. At the time, I was told that they did not have a program in place to be able to reach out to the family of my donor. I just found out recently, that they did implement a program and was excited to make contact, so that you would know that, life for me is so very special because of your gift.

I needed a transplant because I was diagnosed with PBC, a liver disease that affected my immune system, leading my immune system to believe that … Read more »

Dear Donor Family,

I am writing to thank you for the organ donation from your loved one. I am very sorry for your loss, and I want you to know that your gift has given me a chance to live.

I needed a transplant because I had a rare auto immune decease which destroyed my liver.

Since the transplant, I have been able to return to work as a Police Officer. You and your loved one made it possible for me to live my life and be there for my family.

For this, I am very grateful to you and your loved one. My family and I will always remember your act of kindness and generosity. August 16th will always be my second birthday. I will cherish this gift for the rest of my life.

Thank you,

Daniel

I do not know your son’s name, but I just want you to know that he gave me the gift of life. I’m sorry for your loss, but I just want you to know that your son is living within me.

I once had pictures of your son, and I asked a former pastor of mind if he would help me write a letter. I somehow lost the letter and the name and pictures of your son. I want you to know that your son helped a person who has 11 grandchildren and is very religious. I know that God will take that into account when he stands before him.

I’ve been so blessed to have a second chance at life. Thanks to my wonderful donor and family for giving me this wonderful gift of life!!! I’m so sorry for your loss and I hope you can find somewhere in your heart to accept my thankfulness for your gift to me. You have made it possible for me to spend the rest of my life with my family. I can now see my daughter graduate and walk her down the aisle some day and watch my grand kids grow up now that your family has given me this wonderful gift of life! I can help and guide my son down this bumpy road of life, to make the right choices that are put in front of him. So thank you and your family! I’ve been married to my wife for 28 years. “I am now doing well and will watch my grandchildren grow”

Dear donor family,

I am writing to express my gratitude for the liver transplant I received. I was very ill and the donated liver saved my life. I am a 67 year old wife, mother and grandmother. I am now doing well and will watch my grandchildren grow. My entire family is grateful for this gift. Although my heart is filled with gratitude, words cannot fully express how I feel.

I once again wish to express my gratitude. I have began working in my small garden once again and am able to resume the activities I was unable to enjoy prior to my transplant. Even though this letter is short, it does not diminish the gratitude I feel. I again thank you with all my heart.

Dear Donor Family,

On the date of my transplant my second life began as I was given the gift of life by your families loss. My new liver has changed my life. Your family has saved my life and because of you, I can be there for my family. Your love and compassion for the human life has provided me with a new, healthy liver that I am honoring each day of my life by taking care of my body and honoring your son with every breath I take. Because of your amazing generosity of donor life, I am alive today with my family. I cannot imagine the pain of your loss, but I wanted you to know that your son’s gift to my family will always be nurtured, treasured and adored forever.
