My name is S., I am writing to thank you for the organ donation from your loved one. My father received a new liver and new chance at life because your loved one was selfless and kind. I am very sorry for your loss; I cannot imagine your pain, but I want you to know that this gift has given my dad a new chance to live a long and normal life.

My father needed a transplant because his liver was no longer functioning. For many years, my family has endured great sacrifices in trying to keep my dad healthy. I needed the transplant because I was very sick with liver cancer. Since the transplant I have been able to retire and travel to different states. I needed a transplant because I was suffering from renal failure and had only 9% kidney function left. I was soon to start dialysis too.

I cannot express in words how grateful I am for your loved one’s life-saving gift. I have thought of your family daily since I received the phone call that your loved one’s liver was going to provide me another chance at life. I’m deeply sorry for your loss and want to extend my sympathy and condolences during this difficult time.

As someone who is in awe of your generosity, I want to share with you who I am. I’m in my late thirties, currently reside in northern California, and extremely close to my family. I was diagnosed with a rare autoimmune disease and underwent a living donor liver transplant from my cousin years ago. Dear Donor Family,

I am a 72 year old woman, whose family has a history of polycytic kidney disease, so after a six year wait, I am very grateful for this wonderful gift I have received. Your family member allowed me to be more alive in this world and to have better health. I am truly grateful for this gift and will always be mindful that it was a gift.

I am now able to eat, whatever I want, travel without my dialysis machine and medicine, and also to be more active. I cannot say in words what it means to eat whatever I want, because in the last six years, I had to limit my most favorite foods and because of those limitations, I lost weight and my appetite. I received my kidney on Sept. 8, 2017. I just want to thank you for another life that you gave me, the chance to live my life normally, to fulfill my dream of having a family, I am married but we still don’t have kids because I was on dialysis but now with the gift that you gave me, I can now have my own family. And fulfill my dream.

I am writing this letter, to thank you for the gift I received from your loved one last year. My transplant date will be a day that I will cherish, and never forget as long as I live.

I was at the point where my liver was getting ready to fail, when I was put on the transplant list. I was told that there is no specific time or date that one will be available. But I kept my hope and trust in the Lord, and asked him to give me strength and patience as I waited for a donors liver.

I needed an liver transplant due to Cirrhosis. Please don’t misunderstand my reason as most would think drinking or hep c. But nope, I was one of the oddballs, lol. I never drank.
