“Since the transplant, I feel alive, healthy and productive”

Dear Donor Family,

I received your loved one’s precious gift of life (liver). I am truly sorry for your family’s loss and I hope that it brings you peace in knowing your donation has allowed me to become healthy again.

I’m a middle-aged woman with one son. Two years ago, I was diagnosed with stage 4 Cirrhosis. I was in shock, I had no idea my fatty liver would lead to Cirrhosis. I was later admitted to the hospital with liver failure. I was gravely ill and not confident I would receive a liver in time. The amazing transplant doctors let me know that they found a perfect match for me. A few weeks later, I received a successful transplant. I was extremely overjoyed for the donation, yet, saddened for your loss.

Since the transplant, I feel alive, healthy and productive. I haven’t experienced these feelings in a while. Thanks to you and your loved one, I’m able to engage in activities with my family and friends.

If you like, you may contact me, I will understand if you wish not to. Either way, I am eternally indebted to you and your loved one.

Thank you,

Your loved one’s recipient
