Dear, Donor Family,

I can not thank you enough for the donation of a kidney from your loved one. I was in need of a kidney transplant because I was born with Congenital Kidney Defect. This transplant has given me a new perspective on life. It has given me a chance at a normal life. I can now enjoy the foods we all love, I can now enjoy the shower and go swimming. I can now continue with school, to become a nurse, so that I can help others the way you have helped me.

I had been dialysing for 10 years…have been waiting for a kidney for quite a while. I am only 26 now but have lost a lot of my teenager and adult life on dialysis.

Thanks for letting me have a free life again for once. I hope this kidney can bring me a lot of joy and miracles. I will cherish this kidney and will not do anything to ruin it!

I needed a transplant because I had cancer of the liver. My wife donated a portion of her liver to me a month prior but it didn’t work.

I needed a transplant because the main artery to my liver was shrinking and hardening, which cut off blood to the liver and caused it to slowly die.

Dearest Family and Loved Ones of my Organ Donor,

Today is September 11, 2016, and as I think about all that this date means, the emotion is welling up, so I’m writing this long-overdue letter. From the bottom of my heart and soul, I THANK YOU for allowing me to receive this gift of a Liver. I say overdue because I was a bit hesitant to write this letter, but today it feels right.

I am almost 54 (next month) and live in San Francisco. I have lived here for 25 years and was a Flight Attendant for United Airlines for 27 years. I am married for a year and a half, though you could say we were engaged for twenty.

Words can barely describe the gratitude I feel for receiving your kidney. I would like to personally meet and thank you when we are both fully recovered. Your kidney is performing at 110% helping to make my recovery faster.

I live on the outskirts of a city in California where I have a horse and carriage business. I had a previous transplant in 2000, which was a direct donation from a friend of mine. Dear family – It has been 20 years since I received a kidney from your loved one. It has taken me this long to write because I wasn’t sure if you would want to hear from me – but when I celebrated my 20th anniversary I went to the transplant clinic to share my thanks with them and saw an enormous banner that said that donors would love to hear from recipients.
