“In a few months I will be able to return to work, pursuing optical engineering full-time”

Dear Donor Family,

On behalf of my entire family, I am writing to thank you for the organ donation from your loved one. Words alone cannot express my emotions upon receiving this kidney transplant because it has allowed me to begin again and have a chance to live a normal, productive life. I know that this gift comes at a great cost and tragedy to you and your loved one, but I hope that my gratitude and condolences can offer some peace in the healing process.

Before the transplant, I had kidney failure and had gone through ten years of dialysis. While this became a more manageable treatment towards the end, I led a restrictive lifestyle and was frequently tired.

While it has only been a few weeks since the transplant, there have been many changes in my house that show signs of a new life. We have cleared out the remnants of my dialysis days: all the equipment and old medicine has since been moved out. And though my body is still recovering from the surgery, I have confidence that in a few months I will be able to return to work, pursuing optical engineering full-time. In addition, you and your loved one made it possible for me to spend more time with my family and the people I love the most.

For this, I am very grateful to you and your loved one. My family and I will always remember your act of kindness and generosity and I will cherish my gift for the rest of my life.

Thank you,

L.
