“I wish you the best, good memories of the one you lost, and a happy holiday season”

To our wonderful donor family,

My wife received a kidney from a dear family member of yours. It has changed her life immensely as dialysis was literally draining the life out of her. I cannot imagine the tragedy that befell your loved one for my wife to receive their kidney. For that I also grieve his or her loss as no one wants to benefit from the suffering of another.

I am also sorry for waiting to write you. We seem to be going from one lab result to another, like the Sword of Damocles, waiting to see if we were going to keep this precious gift. Although her creatinine levels are going up a bit, I couldn’t wait another week to write you. We are going on 6 months now and we are hoping for many more months and years to come with the kidney your family member so graciously donated.

Holidays are said to be a difficult time after the loss of a loved one. I can only wish you the best, good memories of the one you lost, and a happy holiday season.

We are so very grateful for this gift of life and we hope to keep it for as long as we can.

Thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
