Dear Donor Family,

I am writing to thank you for the organ donation from your loved one. I am very sorry for your loss, and I want you to know that your gift has given me a chance to live a normal, productive life.

I needed a transplant because I had stage 5 kidney failure. I had to do dialysis at home 7 days a week for 8 and a half hours a day.

Since the transplant, I have been able to enjoy more family gatherings and get out of the house more often because I am not so tired or feeling sick from the dialysis process. You and your loved one have made it possible for me to be able to see my grandchildren graduate in a few years and to be able to celebrate my 20 year wedding anniversary this year. … Read more »

Dear Donor Family,

I’m sorry for your loss, grief and heartache! Because of your loved one, I have the miracle of a new liver!!

Prior to my transplant, I always prayed for God to provide a new liver in a timely manner and also prayed for the person and family who would provide that liver. It was really difficult to pray this since I did not want to create a loss in order for me to live!! Words do not express what is forever in my heart because of your loved one’s choice to give life!

I did not realize how ill I was until after my transplant and I felt so alive!! I always just thought the way I felt was from getting old, now I don’t feel old, I have energy and good health! I am back at my job as a … Read more »

Dear Donor Family,

I am writing to thank you for the organ donation from your loved one. I am very sorry for your loss, and I want you to know that your Gift has given me a chance to live a normal, productive life. I needed a transplant because I have Polycystic Kidney disease. It’s a hereditary disease in which cysts grow in and on the kidney eventually destroying its capability to clean toxins from my blood, causing renal failure. Prior to the transplant, I was on dialysis for eight years, MWF for four and a half hours.

The transplant is a miracle that I will always be grateful for, I thank the donor and his or her family every night. Words can’t really express the gratitude I have. I am lucky to be born and raised in Hawaii, I’m an Army veteran and I’m … Read more »

Since the transplant, my wife has been able to see and be with our daughter again. My wife is a Christmas baby. You and your loved one made it possible for her to experience the best Christmas and birthday, not only of her life but of all our lives.

For this, we are very … Read more »

“Things are still a bit touch and go, but I’m in an infinitely better position now than I was before.”

Hello,

I hope this can get to you by Christmas. I wish to share with you both my thanks, and my condolences. I can’t imagine how difficult it must be to lose a loved one. I’m very sorry. It’s only been about four months, so I’m still struggling to recuperate from the operation. Things are still a bit touch and go, but I’m in an infinitely better position now than I was before. I had liver cancer, and the prognosis was not good. Now I have a repreive! I can’t give enough thanks for that.

I would like to write to you again, at a later date, when I’ve fully recoperated. But for now, I only wish to give thanks, and wish you peace and love for the holidays.

Dear Donor family,

It is with utmost gratitude that I write this letter to you on my behalf and that of my family as an indicator of how much we appreciate what you did for our family. I felt very lucky and honored to have received your donation. I believe that there are no words that can describe the feeling you brought to me.

When my health deteriorated, I started consulting for medical assistance with less certainty of what was going to follow. When the doctors said that I needed a liver transplant, I felt like the world was coming to an end. To me, all hope was gone. You came and brought hope to me where none existed. I would like you to know that there is no single day that goes by without me thinking of this wonderful gift of life that you … Read more »

To the people that changed my life.

I am so sorry that it has taken me this long to show my appreciation for the gift you have given me.

I have started and changed this letter so many times.

What do you say to someone who has lost a loved one?

Well I guess all you can say is how deeply sorry you are for their loss.

But then when times are at the worst for the family knowing they will soon lose a loved one they do something so fantastic as to think of others. In their moment of sorrow they donate organs so that other people they don’t even know can live or have a better quality of life.

To me you are my hero. At a terrible moment in your life you thought of me and others and helped us live our … Read more »

Since the transplant took place on November 26, 2017, I am still in recovery mode but am able to walk and move quite a bit and with each day, I know I will get stronger. You and your loved one made it possible for me to experience the full prognosis of being able to be with my family and give back to the community my love and support to help others.

For this I am so grateful that words seem to pale in light of the immense thank you that I need … Read more »

“I’ve started this letter many, many times and the words always felt inadequate to express the gratitude I feel”

Dear Donor Family,

As the season of giving and receiving is upon us, I want to at last thank your family for making my life so much better through the gift of a kidney. I know how difficult a decision you made in order for me to experience a more normal life.

I want to address why it has taken so long to write this letter. First is the sense of guilt in receiving such an amazing gift at the same time you suffered such a tremendous loss. Much time has been spent trying to figure the right time to write. There just never seemed to be a good time, so I kept putting off writing, despite the fact that I think of your loved one every day. Putting off writing isn’t even accurate, as I’ve started this letter many, many times and the … Read more »

“I wish you the best, good memories of the one you lost, and a happy holiday season”

To our wonderful donor family,

My wife received a kidney from a dear family member of yours. It has changed her life immensely as dialysis was literally draining the life out of her. I cannot imagine the tragedy that befell your loved one for my wife to receive their kidney. For that I also grieve his or her loss as no one wants to benefit from the suffering of another.

I am also sorry for waiting to write you. We seem to be going from one lab result to another, like the Sword of Damocles, waiting to see if we were going to keep this precious gift. Although her creatinine levels are going up a bit, I couldn’t wait another week to write you. We are going on 6 months now and we are hoping for many more months and years to come with … Read more »
